AIS Certification Explained
AIS stands for American Iron & Steel — a federal requirement under the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) and related programs mandating that iron and steel products used in certain infrastructure projects be produced in the United States.
All manufacturing processes — from initial melting through final coating — must occur in the United States. Partial domestic processing does not qualify.
MTRs document the chemical and mechanical properties of the steel heat used to produce each product. They are the primary evidence of AIS compliance and domestic origin.
Distributors and contractors supplying AIS-required projects must be able to produce MTRs on demand. Johnson Steel & Pipe includes them with every order — no requests, no delays.
Our pipe nipples are manufactured to ASTM A733, the standard specification for welded and seamless carbon steel pipe nipples, ensuring consistent dimensional and mechanical properties.
